About
What is a Death Cafe?
In its simplest form, a Death Cafe is a gathering of people who meet in a comfortable space to discuss mortality over tea and cake. The idea was developed in the UK by Jon Underwood in 2011 and the
movement has gone on to feature in more than 80 countries worldwide.
Death Cafes provide a safe space to talk about death and dying, which, in Underwood’s view, “Helps people make the most of their (finite) lives.”
A survey by the charity Dying Matters reveals that more than 70 percent of us are uncomfortable talking about death and that less than a third of us have spoken to family members about end-of-life wishes.
This is a group directed discussion on death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group and does not offer grief support or counselling.
Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not for profit basis
- In a respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
- Alongside refreshing drinks – and of course, cake!
Come along for a safe and friendly discussion in a beautiful building.

About Loretta Dunn
Loretta Dunn is a Life Celebrant, certified spiritual advisor, psychic medium and healer. She was a nurse and midwife during a career spanning 36 years, where she supported countless women on their birthing journey.
Since 2015 she has had extensive experience companioning the dying, and working with families to create funeral ceremonies honouring the life of their departed loved ones.
Loretta is passionate about bringing death out of the shadows as a means of helping us to live our best life in the present moment. Compassion and love are at the heart of her work.
Birth and death are part of life’s journey, however where we would plan for a birth, we prefer to shy away from looking at death, and yet, it is the only thing that we can truly guarantee.
As a workshop facilitator, Loretta uses her extensive knowledge to pave the way for a positive experience as we learn to look at death without fear.
