ABOUT
The Case of Pantheism
Pantheists believe that the qualities traditionally ascribed to a supernatural God are in fact properties of the physical universe. Here Dr Goff will defend pantheism by considering three traditional arguments for the existence of God:
1. The First Cause Argument: There must be something eternal and self-explaining in order to explain why the universe exists.
2. The Fine-Tuning Argument: There must be an intelligent designer in order to explain why the universe is fine-tuned for life.
3. The Moral Argument: There must be an ultimate source of goodness and moral objectivity in order to explain right and wrong.
Philip Goff will argue that, whilst these arguments have some force, we can address them with pantheism.

About Philip Goff, PhD
Philosopher and consciousness researcher at Durham University
Philip Goff is a leading philosopher and consciousness researcher at Durham University. His work is focused on how to integrate consciousness into our scientific worldview, and he defends panpsychism on the grounds that it avoids the difficulties faced by the more traditional options of physicalism and dualism. He has published an academic book on this topic – Consciousness and Fundamental Reality (Oxford University Press) – as well as a book aimed at a general audience – Galileo’s Error: Foundations for a New Science of Consciousness (Rider in UK, Pantheon in US). Goff has published over 40 articles in academic journals, and also writes for newspapers and magazines, such as The Guardian, Aeon, the New Statesman, the Times Literary Supplement and Philosophy Now.

GALILEO’S ERROR
Foundations for a New Science of Consciousness
Dr Philip Goff makes the case for panpsychism, a theory which posits that consciousness is not confined to biological entities but is a fundamental feature of all physical matter—from subatomic particles to the human brain. In Galileo’s Error, he has taken the first step on a new path toward the final theory of human consciousness.
