2020/2021 Timetable:

20th February Theosophical Masters: Buddha and Buddhism. Wayne Gatfield, National Speaker, TS England.

The Theosophical Masters declared themselves to be followers of Gautama Buddha and the Maha Chohan stated that even exoteric Buddhism was the surest path to lead us to the one esoteric truth. HP Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott took Pansil in Sri Lanka in 1880 and so became Buddhists. This talk explores the relationship between the Buddha, Buddhism and Theosophy and why it plays such important part in Theosophical teachings.

27th February A 250 year Celebration of a Musical Revolution: 1770-2020.

Mike Hall, Edinburgh TS.

In 2020,the World will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday.  During his life-time, Beethoven preached no philosophy, but today his life is still of huge philosophical importance for mankind in that it represents a genuine spiritual development. Based on Mike’s own personal insights, combined with film clips of some of the greatest artistic performances, this talk will act as a catalyst to explore the mystery behind Beethoven’s personal and creative consciousness.

5th March Gobekli Tepe.

Trevor Watkins, Professor Emeritus, University of Edinburgh.

12th March Historic Libraries of the World.

Isabella Lennie, Edinburgh TS.

It is said, ‘Of the making of books there is no end’. When did Libraries begin and why?

Isabella has been a member of TS Edinburgh since 2011.  She is a retired Scottish Tourist Guide/Guide Trainer and  Fellow, Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.  Her interests include Arts, History, Religion, Archaeology, Nature, Travel and Theosophy.

19th March Psychology Meets Astrology.

Ted Capstick, National Speaker, TS England.

We examine how the tenets of Esoteric Psychology, utilising the archetypal energies of the Seven Rays of divine expression, link with Esoteric Astrology, known as the Science of the Seven Rays.

We will notice how beautifully these two areas of esoteric science dovetail and allow the occultist

to understand and manage the energies of the human soul and personality during an incarnation

on earth.

26th March The Mahatmas and Their Letters.

Film + discussion.

2nd April Higher Consciousness and The Nature of True Mystical Experience.

Discussion led by Mike Hall, Edinburgh TS.

9th April Al-Ghazali

Carole Hillenbrand, Professor Emerita, University of Edinburgh.

What is Theosophy?

the Theosophical Society has no official beliefs with which all members must agree. The Society states that the only tenet to which all members should subscribe is a commitment “to form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color”.

Every Thursday the society meets to discuss a different topic of interest.

Admission: £3 Members / £5 Non-members. ALL WELCOME Talks start 7.00pm in the Mary Duffy Room (Tea/coffee in Cafe from 6.30pm and again after the talk from approx. 8.15 – 8.55pm)
