ABOUT
Founded in Philosophy, Informed by Anatomy
Yoga is a complex and multifaceted entity, one which often gets reduced to workouts and sun salutations when viewed through a Western lens. In our classes, the goal is to use Asana the way it was designed to be used by Patanjali – the father of Yoga; as a small part of something much larger, a stepping stone to understanding ourselves.
Join Sophie at 6pm on Wednesdays via ZOOM for a Yin session. In Yin, focus on long-held poses, using the support of pillows and props to aid the posture. Yin is the calming energy force. Learn to harness this by relaxing all parts of the body through breath work and mindfulness.
What to Expect in Yin Yoga
Expect a slow-paced sequence where you will hold your asanas for longer than other styles of yoga. The passive poses work to stimulate particular subtle energy channels as understood in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Yin yoga helps stretch the connective tissues around your joints and will help you to be able to sit more comfortably and for longer periods of time (in meditation for instance).
For your Yin class you will need a couple of yoga blocks (or big books), a blanket/towel, and 2 or 3 pillows varying in firmness/thickness where possible. If you have a yoga bolster or meditation cushion these would come in handy.

About Sophie O’Brien
Last year Sophie completed her Yoga Alliance certified 200 hour yoga teacher training in Goa, India. She studied Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, Acro, and Aerial Yoga.
‘Learning Yoga in it’s birthplace has gifted me a wonderful knowledge of the authentic practise, where focus was very much on the spiritual above the physical, and emphasis on Yogic philosophy was prevalent.’
-Sophie O’Brien
Since then, Sophie’s qualifications and knowledge have only been growing; she’s currently sitting on 34 hours of additional, certified, training, across a variety of topics (yoga therapy, body positive yoga, accessible yoga for all, mum and baby, kids yoga, trauma informed yoga, yoga for chronic pain/scoliosis/wrists/lower backs; to name a few), with her main focus being on anatomy. The spiritual and philosophical side of Yoga is wonderful, but when you apply anatomy and science to these concepts, and see how they physically translate in to our bodies and minds, that’s where the magic happens.
Sophie believes this magic is in all of us. Come and practise with her and you too will realise your power and potential.
