Come Along to Our Yoga Open Day
The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre is launching IN-CENTRE yoga classes in collaboration with Sophie O’Brien. We’re hosting an Open Day to offer you the opportunity to visit the Centre, meet Sophie and experience the class first-hand.
Sophie has over two years experience as a yoga teacher and has run successful classes in various studios. She has a grounded approach to yoga that incorporates anatomy theory and yogic philosophy. Working with Sophie, you’ll learn to recognise and appreciate your body as a vessel for your life force – your breath. You’ll develop your ability to sit still for longer periods of time and thus strengthen your mind body spirit connection.
There are three yoga sessions running during The Open Day. The first two sessions will be gentle introductions to Hatha yoga. Sophie will explain the purpose of regular yoga practise and give an overview of the many benefits for your overall wellbeing.
All ages and levels of yoga experience are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in and bring a yoga mat if you have one. We will have yoga mats available that will be thoroughly sanitised between uses. Our tearoom will be open for you to come and relax before or after your session and you will be more than welcome to explore our beautiful townhouse.
It is free to book a space for the Open Day but spaces are severely limited so please make sure that you only book if you can attend.
What to Expect
There are three sessions available throughout the day. The tearoom will be open from 3:30pm BST – you are welcome to come early and settle yourself in or have a look around our building.
The schedule for the day:
4:00 – 4:45pm – Hatha Yoga
5:15 – 6:00pm – Hatha Yoga
6:15 – 7:00pm – 30 Minutes Yin Followed by 15 Minute Meditation.
Please come dressed in something you can move around in.
About Sophie O’Brien
Founded in Philosophy, Informed by Anatomy: my teaching style stays true to elements of the traditional practice and incorporates physiological knowledge while aiming to create an environment where everybody feels safe, supported, and welcome. My classes use modern and diverse poses, but employ them in the way Asana was designed to be used by Patanjali – as a small part of something much larger; a stepping stone to understanding ourselves.
In 2019 I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Goa, India. Since then, I have taught for over 200 hours, and accrued around 50 hours of additional, certified training across a variety of topics; the most important – to me – being body positive/inclusive Yoga, Yoga therapy, and trauma-informed practice.
Learning Yoga in its birthplace in India gifted me knowledge of the authentic practice; the spiritual in harmony with the physical. This marriage of the philosophical side of Yoga with anatomy and therapeutic modalities is where the magic happens. My aim is to show my students – no matter their ability, size, or background – their divine power and potential. Because I believe this magic is in all of us.
