In its simplest form, a Death Cafe is a gathering of people who meet in a comfortable space to discuss mortality. The concept of a Death Cafe (DC) was created by Jon Underwood in London in
2011, inspired by the work of Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz, who had organised similar events called “Cafés Mortels.”
The idea is to create a safe, informal, and non-judgmental space where participants can explore their thoughts, fears and questions about death in a supportive environment.
There is no agenda, objectives or themes, and DC does not offer grief support or counselling. Instead, open conversations that can help to foster a deeper understanding of the impermanence of life are encouraged.
Loretta is passionate about bringing death out of the shadows as a means of helping us to live our best life in the present. She uses her extensive knowledge to pave the way for a positive experience as we dive into this fascinating subject and learn to look at death without fear.
Loretta Dunn is a Life Celebrant, certified spiritual advisor, psychic medium and healer. She was a nurse and midwife during a career spanning 36 years, where she supported countless women on their birthing journey. More recently she has had much experience as a companion for the dying, including working with families to create funeral ceremonies to honour the life of their loved ones.
The DC gatherings are free to attend.
